The club last week - August 12th meeting
RYLA
Our speaker last week was Hanna, the Rotaractor (and Interact Club past president) whom we sponsored to go to RYLA this year. Hanna told us about her experience at this leadership development weekend in Neremata. She also shared pictures from some of the weekend activities.
What is RYLA?
Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) is a leadership development program run by Rotary. While participants can be any age, most events focus on secondary school students, university students, or young professionals. RYLA events are typically 3–10 days long and include presentations, activities, and workshops that cover a variety of topics, including:
- Leadership fundamentals and ethics
- Communication skills
- Problem solving and conflict management
- Community and global citizenship
Exchange student Arrival
Our inbound exchange student Janis Birrer from Switzerland arriving last Wednesday, August 13th at the Kamloops airport. His flights were delayed and he arrived very late and unfortunately did not get the Aurora reception at the airport we had planned. We look forward to meeting Janis at this week's meeting.
