CLUB MINUTES: AUGUST 12, 2008

GUESTS: Cheryl Christianson, today's presenter; Cassandra Wilkinson, Jim Bogardis

LATECOMER: Randy - apparently a crow stole his clothes (???? Hmmmm)

PRESENTATION: Cheryl, personal trainer now and Rotary Exchange student in the past, presented Healthy Eating using foods with low glycemic indices.

HEALTHY EATING

Low glycemic index eating has been shown to reduce obesity and metabolic syndrome (type 2 diabetes).  Embraced in Australia, this way of eating is now becoming more recognized in Canada and US.  Symptoms of metabolic syndrome include carb craving, night time eating, weight gain at mid line, and resistance to weight loss.  Reversing these symptoms includes using low glycemic index foods, adding protein to every carb, eating breakfast AND then every 3 hours thereafter (small amounts, everyone!), and sleeping 7 - 8 hours each night.

FMI: www.lowglmeals.com and www.truehealthglobal.com    Cheryl and Laura Kalina (nutritionist with IHA) have published MEALS in MINUTES . . . available at SAVE ON FOODS, and in Kamloops bookstores.  Many thanks to Cheryl for this interesting presentation.
