March is Rotary's Literacy Month. In 1985 Rotary declared basic literacy to be a pre-condition to the development of peace. It is a major focus of Rotary International.
Aurora's efforts to improve literacy have included:
- Sorting thousands of used schoolbooks to send where they were needed.
- Purchasing smartboards for two schools
- Involvement with Kamloops Raise a Reader day
- Support for Canadian Rotary Centennial school project in Afghanistan.
