Howell Nature Center was once again the site of the Livingston Sunrise Rotary President's Night this past Saturday. Once each year, we gather for an evening of fellowship and celebration of the accomplishments of the just completed Rotary Year.

Jim Lawrence was able to present the following awards to deserving Rotarians:

Rotarian of the Year - Luanne Bibbee

4 Avenues of Service Award - Chuck Thompson

Donald P. Pobuda Community Service Award - Scott Menzell

James G. Gilmore IV Service Above Self Award - Linda Basista

Livingston Sunrise Rotary Distinguished Service Award - Aaron LaCross

Paul Harris Fellowship - Brenda Ochidnicky (multiple Paul Harris recipient)

Award of Excellence - Jim Gilmore

President Jim was able to present special Rotary pins to 19 club members who had 100% attendence for the 2009-2010 year.

BTW: Those not in attendence to receive their awards will be fined at the next meeting...that only seems right!

In addition, Scott Menzell was able to present scholarships to the following students from Livingston County:

Brooke Bandyk of Hartland High School - Donald P. Pobuda Memorial Scholarship (4 year scholarship);

John Prout of Pinckney High School - Livingston Sunrise Rotary Foundation Scholarship (one year award).

Both recipients and their families enjoyed the evening of fellowship and food with the Club...Congratulations!

As has been the case in each of the previous 5 years, this past year was our best yet with fundraising and projects exceeding expectations; a new club sponsored and net growth. District 6380 Assistant Governor Jim Gilmore presented President Jim Lawrence with the Rotary International Presidential Citation on behalf of RI President John Kenny.

The evening was completed with the Club's 7th President, Linda Basista, taking the gavel, outlining her goals for 2010-2011 (we're not sure that "don't screw it up" qualifies as a goal, Linda), presenting Jim Lawrence with a nice plaque for his service as President and introducing the Board for the 2010-2011 Rotary year. The Rotary Theme for 2010-2011 is "Building Communities - Bridging Continents."

Linda's year started off with a bang with the announcement that our host for the evening, Dick Grant of the Howell Nature Center, would be re-joining the Club.

Chuck Thompson was appointed Fine Sheriff for the upcoming year and warned that wallet sized portaits of George Washington would be necessary for all to survive his wrath and humor this year.

So, off we go into the 7th year of service and fun through Livingston Sunrise Rotary Club!
