October 27, 2008
Today, October 27, 2008: Today's program is TBA, the infamous To Be Announced. But we are drawing closer and closer to no political commercials and fewer signs along the road. That is something to be thankful for. Even so, we are certainly witnessing a Presidential election that is noteworthy. Will we elect an African-American as president or a woman for vice-president?
Will we make marijuana legal for medicinal purposes?
Will we make embryonic stem cells available for medical purposes?
But don't forget the other elections: the school board, the judges, the townships, the sheriff, and others. The local election IS important particularly to us who will be directly affected.
Congratulations to Michigan State for a game well played. They do have to face Penn State next month, though. Good luck.
Congratulations to Howell High, which beat Jackson for its 8th win.
Next Week: Jay Drick will be the program chair.
Last week Yuri Mano, Rotary Ambassadorial Scholar from Japan visited. She is attending EMU and made a nice presentation about her hometown and sponsor Rotary Club in Japan.
Here she and President Elect Jeff Hansen exchange Rotary flags:

Rotary International continues to receive notice of e-mail phishing scams targeting Rotarians.
One such scam claims the recipient has been selected for a cash prize. Another scam still circulating claims that a deceased Rotarian has left money to the e-mail recipient to be donated to philanthropic efforts. The sender, who claims to be the executor of the will, then asks for the recipient's personal information, including a copy of the individual's passport and driver's license, in order to claim the inheritance.
Here is an example of one scam that is circulating:
