Festival of Trees We will need to decide TODAY as a club if we plan to participate in the Festivals of Trees at the City Park. We have had a member offer to purchase the tree if we do decide to decorate one.
Membership Drive.
At our board of directors meeting last week it was decided to extend our membership campaign through November. Every time you bring a guest between now and that time, your name is entered into a drawing for a $150 VISA gift card. If your guest joins, then you'll be in a drawing for another $50 VISA gift card. Youth Exchange Sponsorship.
Ganiah Hinton, our RYLA participant from this past spring, is applying to participate in the Rotary International Youth Exchange Program. There's a lengthy application process that Ganiah has just completed. The next step will be to go to the District Interview process on November 13th in Mt. Clemens. (Note: Rotarians are needed to participate as interviewees; contact Jeanne Clum if interested.)
Big Brothers Big Sisters Lunch Buddies Program. As shared last week, the need is still great for 'Lunch Buddies' and it's not too late. If you have time to eat lunch twice a month - and we all have to eat sometime - this program's for you! Here's the schedule: Latson Rd. Elementary - 2nd and 4th Mondays; Hutchings Elementary - 1st & 3rd Wednesdays; Southeast Elementary - 2nd & 4th Tuesdays; and Northwest Elementary, 1st & 3rd Tuesdays.

Rotary Minute Harry Griffith
Harry was born a mover and a shaker. He was born in Chicago, moved to Michigan went to school in Farmington, his parents had a cottage on Lake Chemung. His dad went back into the service and the family moved to Ark, MD, IL, OH, back to Farmington, MI. He then moved to Howell where he lived above the Howell Threate, then went to college, went to service lived in SanAntonio, TX to Wash.DC to East Lansing. Harry and his wife currently live on the farm they moved to 55 years ago and have no intentions of moving for anything, can't say I blame him after all the moving he has done. Harry has two children and four athletic grandchildren. Two of the grandkids play or have played golf for MSU(Go State), he has a granchild that is a swimmer for GVSU and a diver for Olivet.
Nov 2, 2010 5pm Cleary's Pub please come to say farewell to Stu Christian. Stu expressed that he feels very lucky to have been a part of the Howell Rotary and considers Livingston County one of the finest counties in Michigan. Stu will be moving south with in the next month.
At last weeks meeting we got into our sub commitee groups and then reported back to the group as a whole. Each sub group had fabulous ideas to work from.
Rotary International- had several great disscussions one of which was finding a long term place to give assitance as a club.
Social Events-disscussed bringing back Themed Mondays, a Spring Dust of your Bike party and several other events they may host during the upcoming year.
Community Development- Bowl for Kids Dan will chair again, Interact Club has 25 students involved they meet @6:45 and 2:30 couple times a month. The interact club had 8 kids at Sleepy Howell, 8 plus worked TdL. Patti has agreed to chair the Cub Scout Pack, Jeff Hanson will chair Walk for Mile, Steve is organizing the Bell Ringing for Salvation Army on Dec 1 10a-8pm look for a sign up sheet at upcoming meetings. Kathleen will chair Walk for Warmth. Wow a lot going on in the community we still need chairs for the following-Day of Caring, 12 days of Gleaners if able to help with either please let Community Development Group know at an upcoming meeting.
Fundraising- discussed replacing wine tasting event with something larger and had other ideas as well
Membership Drive- Mike Hall added $100. to the drawing for bringing in new members, thank you Mike. The group plans to look at lost members and would like to hold a Rotary Wide event to showcase all the great things the club does through out the year.
Public Relations- this group talked about exteneding Facebook as well as working on presenters trying to draw in more guests with exciting presentations.
