Howell Rotary News – May 30th, 2011
There is no meeting on Monday, May 30th – wishing all Howell Rotarians and their families a safe, fun holiday weekend!
On Monday, June 6th, we’ll be back at the hospital community rooms and will be hosting “The Dance Project”, shared and performed by Jaimie Nicholson and her students. Their message is to share that there are alternative dance styles for our youth to learn and enjoy.
Congratulations to Howell High Schools Honor Students and the Interact Club. There was much to celebrate at last week’s meeting held at the Howell High School auditorium lobby. Past President Jeff Hansen, along with Howell Superintendent Ron Wilson, led the recognition of the twenty-three top academic students, along with our Howell Rotary/Ladner/Christopherson scholarship winner Abigail Schultz. Sandie Cortez and Patti Griffith led the Interact Club member recognition – nearly 1,000 volunteer hours were served during this past school year! Awesome job, Howell Rotarians and HHS students!
President-Elect Steve Manor held a great planning session this week with current board members to begin formulating strategies for the upcoming year. Lots of great discussion took place with lots of great opportunities for everyone to get involved. Look for more information to be shared soon…
Long-time Rotarian Don Williams could use a few good thoughts coming his way. With declining health, he’s no longer able to join us at club meetings or functions. His home address is 1089 Willow Lane, Howell, 48843.
Looking Ahead –
Tour de Livingston Kick-Off Planning Committee meets on Monday, June 6th right after our regular meeting. The Tour de Livingston will officially kick off the Sunday of Balloonfest weekend with an early morning ride from downtown to the fly-in site. It’s the perfect venue to showcase our town and our great event!
June 13th’s meeting will be a picnic at West Street Park. We’ll have a low-key program with time to chat amongst fellow Rotarians. We just might also have some Melon Ice Cream to enjoy!
June 20th’s meeting will be the Annual Meeting, held at the Opera House. This is a special time for our club with well-deserved recognitions being given. Please plan a little extra time in your schedule as we anticipate the meeting to run from noon-1:30. We’re planning a special program and meal, with no extra cost to our members (50/50’s, fines, etc. will be covering these additional costs.) If you’d like to bring a spouse or other special guest, the cost would be $10 per person. We will circulate a sign-up sheet a little closer to the event.

The Howell Rotary Club is parking cars at the upcoming Michigan Challenge Balloonfest, June 24, 25 and 26th. Candy Jones-Guerin is working with the Howell Chamber and has some special time frames open for our club members. Please connect with Candy (candyjonesguerin@hughes.net) and sign up ASAP – these shifts go quickly!
The Livingston County United Way’s Day of Caring is August 17th. We need a Howell Rotarian to take the lead for our club’s involvement that day. We can choose to be involved in the morning, afternoon, or all day. This has been a very rewarding day for those who’ve participated in the past.
The Howell Rotary Club is the exclusive coordinator of the Melon Ice Cream sales for the Howell Melon Festival, August 19, 20 and 21. We’ll need lots of help to make this a successful weekend. All proceeds go towards our club-sponsored youth programs. Mark your calendars to join us for a shift (or two!)
