Today, July 7, 2007: Club Assembly and first meeting of the new Rotary year.

Following our July 4th Break, we resume our weekly Howell Rotary Meetings on Monday, July 7th. The following is a note from our new President Kim Dane, who will ring her first Rotary Bell as president today, and lead a Club Assembly:
 
Ron Hingst did a fantastic job with the  Annual Lunch & Awards presentation at the Howell Opera House.  Also a big "Thank You" to Carol Griffith for the beautiful table decorations and Jeff Hansen on planning a delicious lunch!  Ron, we sincerely thank you for the time and effort you put forth as our leader in 07/08!  

We will have a Club Assembly Monday, July 7th!  We will be presenting information about our newest Rotary Fund Raising Event "The Rotary Tour de Livingston"!  The committee will update you on Sponsorship Opportunity Packages.  The committee has a list of business to contact and we will have an open discussion on which businesses you suggest we contact regarding sponsorships.  Think about the companies you have worked with, that may be interested in this opportunity!  We have sub committee's that we will need Rotary Members to sign up for.  Monday will be your first chance to show your support.  All Rotarians will be called upon to assist with this event to ensure its success!  I am looking forward to ringing the bell, See you all Monday!

Dear Fellow Howell Rotarians:

I joined Howell Rotary a few years ago to get to know our community better, to give something back to our community and to know more people in our community. 

From my perspective, Mission Accomplished!

I have met some wonderful people, and I have learned about our community, and I have been able to participate in a Rotary Club rich in history and one that is a part of the fabric of our community.

I do thank you for the opportunity to serve.

I  want to thank our Board of Directors, who provided leadership and counsel;

I want to thank the past presidents, who through their experience can provide a word of guidance through example, when needed;

I want to thank each and every member for helping to move our Club towards our Mission: Service Above Self.

With that said, I have had many wonderful experiences in the course of the Howell Rotarian Year, including:

·         The chance to ring the bells for the Salvation Army at Christmas time;

·         Strolling around our local school for OLHSA Walk for Warmth

·         Collecting food for Gleaners

·         Watching our Howell Rotary Bowling Team get bigger and better for Big Brothers and Big Sisters;

·         Witnessing new and energetic young citizens from our area join Rotary

·         Enjoying the continued support of our Club of some fine students in Interact

·         Having the ability to try new ideas such as the Holiday Raffle

·         Rubbing elbows with Rotarians from the entire region and admiring their dedication to the Rotary cause

·         Witnessing program after program and going away thinking "Wow, Rotary sure does a lot of great things."

·         Watching our Club finances become more secure and developing a focused plan to support the community within our means

·         For the community inviting our Rotary to participate in Balloonfest through parking;

·         Enjoying the fruits of our Steering Committee labor with organized events and planning;

·         Enjoying informative,  interesting and entertaining programs;

·         Stepping down from a year as president, know that you are being succeeded by  Rotarian leadership who will do an even better job.

·         Observing the dedication to Rotary by our Senior Members;

·         Thinking our Club recognizes that Women do make great leaders and we will have our second woman president in four years;

·         Meeting other county Rotary members and sharing in a joint picnic;

·         Having the ability to admire the dedication to our community by our Howell Chamber of Commerce and Livingston County United Way;

·         Knowing that our Rotary will be in wonderful hands under the leadership of Kim Dane!

·         Knowing that being a Howell Rotarian, makes the world a better place!

I have many people to thank for this GREAT year as District Governor and I have tried to do this in my final newsletter.
District Governor Elect Stan is all ready to take over as District Governor, let's all work hard and support Stan as we "Make Dreams Real".

Two Eskimos sitting in a kayak were chilly, so they lit a fire in the craft. Unsurprisingly, it sank, proving once again that you can't have your kayak and heat it, too.*

 

President Kim Dane will need five volunteers to assist with coordinating the clubs participation in the following areas:

GSE Committee Member:  Each Club from the District will assign one member for the Sector 10 GSE effort in the spring of 2009.  
Polio Plus Coordinator:  Would attend a few meeting in regards to polio plus efforts by Sector 10.
Foundation Chair:  Help with coordinating clubs individual support of our Rotary Foundation.
Rotary Information Officer:  This individual will receive emails from the District RIO Merle Loch.  The Howell RIO will then relay this information to the club at our weekly meeting.  
Think about where you want to make a difference and volunteer for one of the above opening! 


Downtown Digital Scavenger Hunt
 
Kathy Zaenger and crew at the Howell Carnegie Library have an exciting event coming up - Go to: www.howelllibrary.org - read about the Downtown Digital Scavenger Hunt, Friday, July 18- and be sure to click on the link for more details!
 
L et's break it down.... it's a scavenger hunt, taking place in downtown Howell, but instead of collecting items on a list, players will be taking photos of the items on the list - with their digital camera.
 
Registration is taking place at the Howell Carnegie Library Reference Desk .   The $10 per person fee is due at the time of registration.  
 
It's going to be a lot of fun - please talk it up with friends and customers & let them know how great this is going to be!

Brigham Young University - Idaho presents "Dance Alliance"

At the Brighton Center for the Performing Arts on the Campus of Brighton High School on Tuesday, July 22, 2008. Proceeds from this performance will benefit our local Women's Resource Center. You are invited to enjoy these exceptional and dedicated dancers who hail from all parts of the United States. They are performing in Livingston County as part of a multi-week tour through Michigan and Canadian providences of Ontario and Quebec. Under the direction of Jennifer O'Farrell, Dance Alliance will feature an expansive repertoire of music and dance styles celebrating the roots and evolution of the jazz era. The repertoire will include Charleston, soft shoe, tap, contemporary, foxtrot, ballet, Broadway jazz, swing, Latin, and fusion. Full of vibrant energy, the BYU-Idaho Dance Alliance promises you a memorable experience.

All seating is Reserved Seating and ticket cost is $12 per person. As a courtesy to performers and patrons, children under age 5 will not be admitted. So come and enjoy the energetic dance and musical presentation of "Dance Alliance" at the Brighton Center for the Performing Arts, 7878 Brighton Road, Brighton High School, Brighton, MI 48116 on Tuesday, July 22 at 7:30 pm.
