Today, December 12, 2005: Chuck Jacobs has asked Charlie Arnett to lead us in the singing of Christmas carols, both traditional and "business alternative."
Chuck and Charlie have been called upon because Rod Bushey and the HHS Chorale are presenting their traditional program next week (December 19). Remember that you are invited to ask guests for this program.

Rotary will not meet on Monday, December 26 or Monday, January 2.
Thanks to all those Rotarians who rang the bell for the Salvation Army on a cold Thursday, December 8th. This is certainly a sacrifice for all those who enjoy a warm room and hot coffee.
Polio. Most of you know that Rotary International is leading the way in eradicating polio in Asia and Africa. The National Health Service receives most of the credit, but Rotary provides resources. Here is a
brief update on the progress.
Polio is endemic (still existing) in only six countries in Africa and Asia. However, these countries threaten polio-free countries everywhere.
Eight countries have suffered imported cases. 90% of the cases in 2005 have occurred in only three countries: Yemen, Indonesia, and Nigeria.
Egypt, considered endemic last year, has not reported a case of polio yet in 2005, giving rise to the hope that it is now polio-free.
India, once a major reservoir of the disease, now reports historically-low cases of polio, mainly in just two northern states.
In short, polio could be finished within six months everywhere, except in Nigeria. We are getting there!
