Program Notes for June 27, 2005

Today we have our annual meeting at the West Street Park. Pancake Breakfast: We served 268 intrepid balloon watchers Sunday morning, down from 400 served last year. But considering the heavy rain during the first couple of hours we came out all right. We heard from more than a few customers that the pancakes were good and the eggs a nice addition.

We won't know how profitable the event was until we get the labor and food bills from the school but here are the preliminary numbers:
$2177 income from sales and assessment
$750 projected food and labor expense
$1427 projected net profit
We could not have pulled this off without the help of John Hubble, Dan Jaros, Ron Hingst and Carol's husband, Ron Jones who all ran a hot griddle shift. Jim Reed and Carol Griffith made batter and kept the kitchen organized. Martha Hubble, Vaughn Oswalt, Milt Sandling, Lou Eaton and Herb Wagner kept the dining room neat. Clyde Riley, Jeanne Clum, Bill Earl, Fred Woodhams and Bruce Campbell served breakfast with a smile. Amy Connolly, Kim Dane and Peter Bowen collected tickets and cash. All the second shifters stayed on until noon to clean, mop, wash dishes and everything else it took to leave the kitchen and dining room like we found them. I especially want to thank Jan Clay who came in John's stead to help clean up. These folks exemplify our motto: "Service Above Self".
Thanks to Sam, Harry and Zemp for bringing family out to eat. Thanks to any other other Rotarians who came to eat or volunteer that I missed.
There will be no meeting next week in observance of Independence Day. On July 11 there will be the usual 2nd Monday board meeting at 11:00, where we will welcome new board members Ron Hingst, Mike Hall, and Bill Earl. Then during the Club Assembly at noon we will introduce the new meeting format that the Strategy Committee has finalized.
