Program Notes for January 10, 2005
Howell is back in the news - this time Channel 7 - again. The Grey Nash Auction House was displaying some Klu Klux Klan robes and other items. These items were used when the Grand Dragon of the KKK, Robert Miles, would hold rallies at his Cohoctah farm. This identified Howell with bigotry and racial injustice.
However, our own Pat Convery did a wonderful job explaining the progress that Howell has made with diversity. She and Vic Lopez clarified the situation openly and thoughtfully. In short, there is no story except one of a town overcoming an unpleasant past reputation.
Welcome Back, Maria! Pat and Fred hosted Maria Stuart, a former Rotarian looking to return. Those who read her columns in the LCP&A know that she has been busy managing the paper and raising Will.
Sheriff Bezotte. With Don Homan's retirement, Bob Bezotte is now the Sheriff of Livingston County. No, "Jailhouse Rock" is not his favorite song.
Jim Gilligan is putting Howell Rotary on line. He hopes that this will increase attendance and strengthen membership. Look for the newsletter as you peruse the internet every morning.
Did You Know? John Hubbel and Fred Woodhams are corpses in the Community Theater production of "Arsenic and Old Lace." They are two of the Yellow Fever victims that the two sweet old ladies put out of their misery and bury in the cellar. Productions are the first two weekends in February. They must have been dying to be on stage!!
