Program Notes for February 7, 2005
Today, February 7, 2005: Stewart Christian has invited newly-elected judge Dave Reader as well as Rotarian Stan Latreille to speak.
Congratulations! The Howell Chamber of Commerce made special awards at its annual dinner last week:
1. To Peter Bowen (and Charlotte Swann) the DDA Design Committee recognized the improvement of two downtown buildings - Swann's Building on Grand River and the Smith Barney Building on Clinton.
2. To OLHSA (Catherine Ray Dunning executive director) the Community Initiative Award was given for its work in creating a comprehensive information and referral helpline for health, human, and community services.
3. To Tom Lawrence was given the Above and Beyond Award for his service to many community boards, including the Howell and Brighton Chambers of Commerce Foundation Board, United Way, and OLSHA.
4. To the Howell Downtown Development Authority (Amy Connolly and Barb Smith) was given the Outstanding Architectural Investment Award.
There is a featured story about Rotarian Sally Vaughn in the LCP&A last week. It was about LESA's enormous responsibilities to the school district, including professional development for the county's teachers, school district reports, student records, career technical educational programs (such as the culinary arts program at HHS), among others. It is. of course, known for its service to 3000 special education students.
Super Bowl. Finally the football season is over! For those fans going into withdrawal, the good news is that spring practice for colleges begins in March and April. For sports fans in general, spring practice for baseball season is beginning in two weeks.
