The Howell Rotary Club will meet on Monday, November 7th, 2011 for lunch at 12:00 in the Community Room at St. Joseph Mercy Livingston Hospital on Byron Rd. in Howell.
Last week we heard Club member Carol Griffith speak about the housing economy in Livingston County and the impact of declining property values on government services. Carol spoke very positively about the actions that have been taken by the County to address the challenges of meeting the demand for public services with fewer dollars.
The program this week will be presented by Club member Mike Yost. Mike will be speaking about hunger in Livingston County. Please be thinking about how you can step forward and help assure that every family in this county has food for themselves and their family. You might think about bringing your check book to this meeting. We all know that state assistance for the long-term indigent is being ended – at least it is for many of them. Those members of our community will be turning more than every to local service agencies for help.
In that regard, we need help from you on Sunday, November 13th to staff the Rotary Day at Soft Shell Car Wash on South Michigan to collect money for the 12 Days of Gleaners. Sandie and Patti have a whole bunch of Interact students already signed up but we need to provide adult help and supervision. This is a great opportunity to build relationships with the Interact students.
The “sign-up” sheet will be circulating Monday. Be ready to put your name into a time slot. And thank you in advance!
We’ll also be signing you up for the Salvation Army Bell Ringing. The date is Wednesday, December 7th. Bring you calendar so you can pick a time slot!
Pick early! Get a good time slot! We’ll be working from 10:00 to 8:00 in two (2) hour time periods. Once again, Sandie and Patti have a whole bunch of Interact students signed up to work from 3:00 to 8:00 (after their school day). We need to provide the adult supervision and help. Those that have done this, and that’s most of you, know that it’s really a fun and rewarding experience. That’s particularly true if you’re working in conjunction with the Interact youth.
