Howell Rotary News - 10-4-10

Gearin' Up for Tour de Livingston.  This is our last club meeting prior to the Tour de Livingston on 10-10-10.  We want to make sure everyone's up to speed on the exciting happenings this next week.  Jim Gilligan's working on sunny and 70s weather for us.  We still have the need for a few volunteers, especially at hospitality locations on the routes.

Last week's program featured 9 of the 10 candidates running for one of the three open seats on the Howell School's Board of Education.  It was a good opportunity to put names and faces to candidates, hear their opinions and viewpoints, and get a feel for how they might interact on the Board of Education.  Important election on November 2nd.

Membership Drive.  At our board of directors meeting last week it was decided to extend our membership campaign through November.  Every time you bring a guest between now and that time, your name is entered into a drawing for a $50 VISA gift card.  If your guest joins, then you'll be in a drawing for another $50 VISA gift card.  Could be some great holiday cash!  See Pat Convery for more information and for membership applications.

Youth Exchange Sponsorship.   Also at last week's board meeting, the board approved supporting Ganiah Hinton's participation in the Rotary International Youth Exchange Program.  There's a lengthy application process that Ganiah is just starting, with submissions due the end of October.  Ganiah was our RYLA attendee this last spring.

Big Brothers Big Sisters Lunch Buddies Program.   As shared last week, the need is still great for 'Lunch Buddies' and it's not too late.  If you have time to eat lunch twice a month - and we all have to eat sometime - this program's for you!  Here's the schedule:  Latson Rd. Elementary -  2nd and 4th Mondays; Hutchings Elementary - 1st & 3rd Wednesdays; Southeast Elementary -  2nd & 4th Tuesdays; and Northwest Elementary, 1st & 3rd Tuesdays.

Upcoming Programs.   The program calendar is filled through the end of 2010; we have openings starting in mid-January.  If you have an idea for a great program to bring the club, please let Jeanne Clum know.  Shoot her an e-mail at jclum@lcunitedway.org .
