This week is our quarterly Club Assembly.
We'll break out into various committees and have discussion on how to further move our vision for the year.
If you're not currently assigned to a committee - don't worry, we've got you covered! Committees include: Public Relations, Membership, Fundraising, Community Development, Social Events, and Rotary Foundation / Rotary International.
Your thoughts are important to the vitality of our organization. Committees will meet and then report back to the membership at the end of the meeting.
Don't Forget Our Membership Drive!
We've extended our membership campaign through November. Every time you bring a guest between now and that time, your name is entered into a drawing for a $50 VISA gift card. If your guest joins, then you'll be in a drawing for another $50 VISA gift card. Could be some great holiday cash! See Pat Convery for more information and for membership applications.
Rotary International Youth Exchange Interviewees Needed.
Rotarians are needed to participate as interviewees for the District Interview process on November 13th in Mt. Clemens. Contact Jeanne Clum if interested.
Doubling Personal Contributions for Fight Against Polio.
All Rotarians have the opportunity to make a donation to Polio and receive a doubling of your credit. This is for individual Rotarians only, available October 18-24 and only available on line. There is a minimum contribution amount of $100. This doubling means you can receive a Paul Harris Recognition with only a $500 donation! Go to www.rotary.org after October 18th and click Contribution and follow the directions.
Livingston Literacy Council Update.
The Livingston County Literacy Coalition is scheduling a free training series for adults interested in learning how to help other adults improve their reading skills. The series provides 14 - 15 hours of professional instruction. Interested individuals are invited to a free orientation meeting to find out more: Tuesday, October 26, 7:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m., Village Manor, 9501 E. Highland Rd. (M-59), Howell.
Big Brothers Big Sisters Lunch Buddies Program.
The need is still great for 'Lunch Buddies' and it's not too late. If you have time to eat lunch twice a month - and we all have to eat sometime - this program's for you! Here's the schedule: Latson Rd. Elementary - 2nd and 4th Mondays; Hutchings Elementary - 1st & 3rd Wednesdays; Southeast Elementary - 2nd & 4th Tuesdays; and Northwest Elementary, 1st & 3rd Tuesdays. Call Kim Roberts at BBBS if interested, 517-546-1140.

Rotary Minute-Pat Convery
Pat grew up in New Jersey which many people do not know about her. She currently lives in Howell, MI with her husband Joe of 41 years. They have three children two of whom live in Michigan and one in California. Pat and Joe love sailing and while they don't have their own boat they are members are a fabulous sailing club. Pat is the President of the Howell Chamber of Commerce, she began her career with them in 1990 where she started as director of Balloonfest.

Last week's presentation Clyde Riley
Clyde was born in 1924 in SE Alabama, where his father was a farmer. In the 10th grade Clyde met Helen, his beautiful wife, they graduated in 1944 and then lost contact for 50 years. After graduation Clyde joined the Navy. Besides his family joining the Navy was the best thing that ever happened to him in life. In the Navy he was picked as one of six guys out of 120 to do office work. His job was to interview 4 guys and hour, 32 hours a week for a year needless to say he interviewed a lot of guys. He was to inform them of the GI Bill. When Clyde got out of the Navy he planned to attend the University of Alabama but was offered a job at .40 an hour and he took the job. After several promotions over 30 years Clyde became president of the Hygrade Company. Things went very well for Clyde and he enjoyed his job, the company was only in crisis one time during his presidency. Hygrade was bought and sold four times while Clyde wad president, the last sale was to Sara Lee for $140,000,000, J. Hanson is who sold to Sara Lee and he had bought Hygrade for $30,000,000. Clyde met several presidents, many influential people, traveled frequently throughout several countries, and enjoyed his job with all of its experiences. He retired in 1992 when Sara Lee bought Hygrade.
Clyde's presentation was interesting and fun if you did not get a chance to hear Clyde's story or if you have any questions for Clyde he is always willing to share a story. Thank you, Clyde for a wonderful presentation.
