Howell Rotary News - 10-18-10
This week's program is CLYDE RILEY, presenting on "The Life Adventures of Clyde Riley!"
Clyde has led a very interesting life and has held leadership roles in numerous capacities. (Do any of you out there remember the Hygrade hotdog hot air balloon at Balloonfest years ago? It was Clyde's doing!) Clyde has met some pretty influential people over the years and he's got lots of stories to share. Will be a most interesting program!
Note to Board Members from Jeanne Clum:
There will NOT be a board meeting prior to Monday's meeting due to a work schedule conflict; will reschedule.
Last week's program
featured great discussion and sharing of all the good things that took place with the Tour de Livingston. We had 550 riders, a perfect day for bicycling, great routes, great food, great volunteers - just a blast for everyone involved (with the exception of a couple of Jeff Hansen's friends
L
who took a dive.) Thanks to all who participated in one way or another!
Michael Lenninger from American Red Cross Blood Services also presented last week on how important it is to give blood, the demand for specific types, the current inventory and the great need in our community. Lots of great questions were answered as well.
Membership Drive.
At our board of directors meeting last week it was decided to extend our membership campaign through November. Every time you bring a guest between now and that time, your name is entered into a drawing for a $50 VISA gift card. If your guest joins, then you'll be in a drawing for another $50 VISA gift card. Could be some great holiday cash! See Pat Convery for more information and for membership applications.
Youth Exchange Sponsorship.
Ganiah Hinton, our RYLA participant from this past spring, is applying to participate in the Rotary International Youth Exchange Program. There's a lengthy application process that Ganiah has just completed. The next step will be to go to the District Interview process on November 13th in Mt. Clemens. (Note: Rotarians are needed to participate as interviewees; contact Jeanne Clum if interested.)
Doubling Personal Contributions for Fight Against Polio
All Rotarians have the opportunity to make a donation to Polio and receive a
doubling
of your credit. This is for individual Rotarians only, available October 18-24 and only available on line. There is a minimum contribution amount of $100. This doubling means you can receive a Paul Harris Recognition with only a $500 donation! Go to www.rotary.org after October 18th and click Contribution and follow the directions.
Big Brothers Big Sisters Lunch Buddies Program.
As shared last week, the need is still great for 'Lunch Buddies' and it's not too late. If you have time to eat lunch twice a month - and we all have to eat sometime - this program's for you! Here's the schedule:
Latson Rd. Elementary - 2nd and 4th Mondays; Hutchings Elementary - 1st & 3rd Wednesdays; Southeast Elementary - 2nd & 4th Tuesdays; and Northwest Elementary, 1st & 3rd Tuesdays.
