Howell Rotary News - 11-29-10

John Hubbel will be our program coordinator for Monday's program featuring "Electric Cars - Past and Present". Also on Monday we'll be inducting three new members J and bring forward recommendations for the club's future leadership - President Elect (for 2010/2011) and President Nominee (for 2011/2012).

Don't Forget our Membership Drive! Monday is the final day! If you've brought a guest to a meeting August-present, your name is in a raffle for $150 VISA gift card. If that guest has joined, your name is in an additional drawing for $50 VISA gift card! It's not too late to bring guests to Monday's meeting to get your name in the drawing. Some quick holiday cash will be passing hands on Monday.

Howell Rotary is Ringing the Bell for The Salvation Army on Wednesday, December 1^st at both doors of the Howell Wal-Mart store from 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Thanks to Steve Manor for leading the charge, and to all those who are helping.

Last Week - Several members of the Howell Interact Club and their advisor joined us and shared their vision and activities for the newly-recharged club. They have lots of great energy! Sandie Cortez, Patti Griffith and Debbie Mikula are working with the club. The Interact Club expressed interest in coordinating efforts to help Bill Klein's family get a new home computer. Rotary asked the group to put together a plan to bring back to our club for further discussion / possible action.

Festival of Trees. We're decorating a tree for Howell's Festival of Trees at the City Park. Thanks to our anonymous sponsor and the decorating team we'll have great visibility to the hundreds of people driving through the park!

Looking Ahead at Upcoming Programs : Mark your calendars for December 20^th for our annual Christmas program featuring the Howell High School Chorale. We'll meet at the Opera House for this special program. Guests are invited, however, we'll need a head count a little closer to the date.

A Little Thanksgiving Humor....
A young man named John received a parrot as a gift. The parrot had a bad attitude and an even worse vocabulary. Every word out of the bird's' mouth was rude, obnoxious and laced with profanity.

John tried and tried to change the bird's attitude. Finally, John was fed up and shook the parrot, but the parrot got angrier and even more rude. John, in desperation, grabbed the bird and put him in the freezer.

For a few minutes the parrot squawked and kicked and screamed. Then suddenly there was total quiet. Fearing that he'd hurt the parrot, John opened the door to the freezer.

The parrot calmly stepped out onto John's outstretched arms and said, "I believe I may have offended you with my rude language and actions. I'm sincerely remorseful for my inappropriate transgressions and I fully intend to do everything I can to correct my rude and unforgivable behavior."

John was stunned at the change in the bird's attitude. As he was about to ask the parrot what had made such a dramatic change in his behavior, the bird said, very softly, "May I ask what the turkey did?"
