Today, September 12, 2005: Today's speaker is Eric Reickel, the director of Howell Parks and Recreation. His topic, appropriately enough, is "The State of Howell's Park System."
Golf: It is that time again. The annual Howell, Brighton, and now the Sunrise Rotary Clubs will tee it up on Tuesday, September 27, at 1 p.m. at the Majestic. Green fee is $40. Please sign up with Fred and include your handicap.
Walking with the Governor: Did you notice who was walking the street with Govenor Granholm? Well, several Rotarians. Those pictured include Amy Connolly and Pat Convery. It is all about being a Cool City!
Yesterday was September 11. Most of us can remember exactly what we were doing when we heard the dreadful news. Today let us pause to remember all those who were affected by this event, both living and dead.

Since we last met, we had another catastrophe: Hurricane Katrina. After such an event, everyone is still recovering. Disaster Recovery planners may have identified the peril (weak levees) but with such inexperienced people in charge of FEMA, it was a disaster. People are finally putting the city back in some semblance of order.
Football: The season has begun. The Old Blues are groaning after another loss to Notre Dame and the inability to score despite numerous opportunities. Sparties are rolling along after overwhelming the Little Sisters of the Poor. Next week Sparty plays Notre Dame.
