Today, May 2, 2005 We are in for a treat today. John Clay has arranged (with the help of Mrs. Clay) to bring the choir from Hutchins Elementary School to sing for the Club.
Millage Election Tomorrow: The much discussed millage vote is Tomorrow! School funding is a huge concern for the community and the schools. Will the Sales Tax, the Lottery proceeds, and other funding support public education? Probably not. The Republicans have come out against the millage but provide no alternative means of funding, except to lower school employee benefits. This millage lasts only three years, something to think about.
School Violence It can't happen here! Well, it is happening. At Three Fires Middle School two boys are being investigated for bringing knives to school and for threatening other students. At another school, a student was threatening to bring an "explosive device" to school. Fortunately, officials were able to prevent anything worse from occurring. This is a small indication of today's problems.
Disaster Recovery Just as we hear about the events at school, we are training for even greater potential disasters. We are not talking fire alerts but far greater disasters.
Excuses Do you remember your parents writing an excuse for your missing school? Well, here are a few of the better excuses that school administrators will ever find:
1. "My son is under a doctor's care and should not take P.E. today. Please execute him."
2. "Please excuse Lisa for being absent. She was sick and I had her shot."
3. "Please excuse Gloria from Jim today. She is administrating."
4. "Please excuse Jennifer for missing school yesterday. We forgot to get the Sunday paper off the porch. When we found it Monday, we thought it was Sunday."
5. Please excuse Ray from school. He has very loose vowels."
