Today's Program: Mike Hall has invited Jeff Lichty, Rotary Foundation chair and past district governor, to speak about the background and purpose of the Foundation.

Ron Hingst is the program chair next Monday.  His program is the Substance Abuse Prevention for the Youth of Livingston County.  Daydra Cormican - the coordinator of the County Community Alliance will be the speaker.

The Steering Committee will met this coming Thursday, January 25, at Cleary's Pub.

Good Luck to Jeri McKeon Anderson and Bonnie Miller, who are both undergoing surgery in the next week!

Good News From Africa!

John Rubio, our Youth Committee Chairman received this message from our Ambassadorial Scholar, Sarah Heddon last week:

"We just returned to the states yesterday and are a little overwhelmed with getting ready for school and processing the trip. Our visit was amazing and we returned with many pictures, stories and some fresh ideas. We'll be in touch shortly ready to take the Bitone Project to the next level!"

Did You Know?

That Howell Rotary Member Tony Sakey's son Marcus Sakey has received wide acclaim for his first book, The Blade Itself? You can read more about Marcus and his book here.

Commentary

It is January and the football season is still going.  Not so long ago, the championship game was played in December.  Then it was January.  Now the Super Bowl will be played in February.  Basketball and hockey seasons are half over, Baseball is ready for spring training.  It must be the money.

Those who attended the gala fundraiser for the Opera House at the McPherson Mansion know that this magnificent building is worth saving.  The city council must devise a plan for a profit-making business, such as a upscale restaurant, despite what the neighbors say.  This is historic building that belongs to the city, not for the few people who live close by.

Beware the Howell Western Wear, that new and classy business that replaced the brassiere emporium.  My wife just returned with new Western boots, and now I am concerned about a horse to go with the boots.
