Today, August 1, 2005:  We have having a Welcome-to-August meeting.  President Carol is planning a fun meeting.  Together "we will create our short term and long term goals and mission."  In short, we will create an unique definition for Howell Rotary.

In The News:  1.  Vaughn Oswalt was featured in the "Our Neighbors" section of the Press and Argus.  Did you know that Vaughn is a great grandfather?  We are pretty sure that he is a great Rotarian, but certainly too young (well, his wife is) to be a great grandfather.  It is a good article about a special family.

2.  Sally Vaughn received a special LESA award.  Congratulations Sally!

3.  Bob Bezotte had a good picture of himself in the paper.  That will cost you, Bob!

Last Week's Program:  Several people have commented on Herb Bursch's program last week and how impressed they were about his presentation.  That is always good to thank the Program Chair and the Speaker after a program.  It is a sign of encouragement and a Thank-You for helping to make the lunch special.

August 29 Program: We have an annual visit from our District Governor on this day.  He will meet with the Directors at 11 a.m.

August 4:  The Directors and other interested Rotarians are meeting at Cleary's to discuss plans and developments for the Club.  The meeting starts at 12 noon in the far room at Cleary's.

Something to think about:  If we could shrink the earth's population to a village of precisely 100 people with all the existing human ratios remaining the same, it would look something like this:

1. There would be 57 Asians, 21 Europeans, 14 from North and South America, and 8 Africans.

2. 52 would be female.  48 would be male.

3. 30 would be white.  70 would be non-white.

4. 30 would be Christian.  70 would be non-Christian.

5. 89 would be heterosexaul.  11 would be homosexual.

6.  80 would live in substandard housing.
70 would be unable to read.
     50 would suffer from malnutrition.
1 would have a college education.
     1 would own a computer.

This is food for thought.
