Monday’s program will feature “Advantage Livingston” co-presented by Pat Convery and Glenn Pape of the Michigan Land Policy Institute. This has been a year-long endeavor for our community and the culminating report was recently presented to the community. This will be a great opportunity to hear more about how we as leaders can help to move Livingston County forward.
Last week’s program speaker was Dr. Jeff Masters, a meteorologist who developed the internet weather website www.wunderground.com. What an incredible program! Dr. Masters shared the development of weather websites, with wunderground.com being one of the very first and one of the largest sites to date. He also shared weather patterns over the years and explained various cycles, statistics on local Michigan impact, and projections for weather changes that we can expect. Be sure to connect with Dr. Masters’ website and hop on one of the blogs…very, very interesting!
Please keep our District Governor Janet McPeek’s husband, Phil, in your thoughts and prayers. He fell down stairs earlier this week and has been in ICU since with serious injuries on both lungs and has a broken elbow. Today’s report is that he’s finally turned the corner and is starting to slowly recover. (We met Phil when he accompanied Janet to a Howell Rotary meeting last fall.) Wishing both he and Janet strength through Phil’s injury and recovery.
Thanks to President Elect Steve Manor who attended the Rotary District 6380 Conference last weekend in Traverse City. He represented the Howell Rotary Club and Tour de Livingston well.
Jeff Blagg will be representing our Club at the upcoming District 6380’s Future Vision Grant informational seminar in Brighton. Our presence is required to give us certification and the ability to pursue district grant opportunities. We look forward to hearing Jeff’s report.
Looking Ahead –
May 23rd’s program/luncheon will be at the Howell High School Auditorium Lobby. We’ll be honoring our Interact Club members as well as Howell High School’s Class of 2011 summa cum laude students. It’s an honor to recognize our exemplary youth. Please note: the program will run from ~ 12:15-1:15 to coordinate with the students’ schedule.
June 13th’s meeting will be a picnic at West Street Park. We’ll be dedicating a tree in the memory of member Bill Earl who passed away last summer. The City of Howell is coordinating the purchase and placement of the tree. We’ll also have a some Melon Ice Cream to enjoy!
June 20th’s meeting will be the Annual Meeting, held at the Opera House. This is a special time for our club with well-deserved recognition being given. Please plan a little extra time in your schedule as we anticipate the meeting to run from noon-1:30. We’re planning a special program and meal, with no extra cost to our members (50/50’s, fines, etc. will be covering these additional costs.) If you’d like to bring a spouse or other special guest, the cost would be $10 per person. We will circulate a sign-up sheet a little closer to the event.
