Howell Rotary News – May 16th, 2011
Howell School Superintendent Ron Wilson will be our program presenter on Monday. He has lots to share about school finance, what the future may hold for our schools as Michigan moves forward. Should be a most interesting program – feel free to bring guests who might have interest in this important topic.
Board Members - There will not be a board meeting on Monday, as originally scheduled; will be rescheduled sometime in the next couple of weeks. – Jeanne Clum
Last week, Glenn Pape of the Michigan Land Policy Institute and Pat Convery spoke about “Advantage Livingston”, a year-long strategic planning process for the greater Livingston County community. The plan has been published and presented to the community – now the major work begins. Kudos to Howell Rotarians Pat Convery, Mike Hall, Kathleen Zaenger, Steve Manor and Dennis Perkins for taking leadership roles in this process.
Jeff Blagg represented our Club at the District 6380’s Future Vision Grant informational seminar in Brighton. Our presence is required to give us certification and the ability to pursue district grant opportunities. We look forward to hearing what Jeff has to share.
Congratulations to our very own Kim Dane! Kim was recently promoted (again!) to Assistant Vice President, Operations. We’re really proud of you, Kim, and know that this promotion was so well deserved.
Looking Ahead –
Tour de Livingston Committee Meets on Friday, May 20th @ 8 a.m., at the Howell Chamber building. Everyone is invited to join us – hope to see you then!
Next Week - May 23rd’s program/luncheon will be at the Howell High School Auditorium Lobby. We’ll be honoring our Interact Club members as well as Howell High School’s Class of 2011 summa cum laude students. It’s an honor to recognize our exemplary youth. Please note: the program will run from ~ 12:15-1:15 to coordinate with students schedules.
June 13th’s meeting will be a picnic at West Street Park. We’ll be dedicating a tree in the memory of member Bill Earl who passed away last summer. The City of Howell has coordinated the purchase and placement of the tree. We’ll also have some Melon Ice Cream to enjoy!
June 20th’s meeting will be the Annual Meeting, held at the Opera House. This is a special time for our club with well-deserved recognitions being given. Please plan a little extra time in your schedule as we anticipate the meeting to run from noon-1:30. We’re planning a special program and meal, with no extra cost to our members (50/50’s, fines, etc. will be covering these additional costs.) If you’d like to bring a spouse or other special guest, the cost would be $10 per person. We will circulate a sign-up sheet a little closer to the event.
