Howell Rotary News – 3-28-11
Reminder – Rotary Board meets at 11 a.m. on Monday!
On Monday Dr. David Yanga will navigate us through his new website HealthSceptor, which gives people access to resources for lower cost medical procedures, pharmaceuticals, and more. Should be a most informative and timely program.
Don't Forget – Whether You're a Winer or Not:
Bring your friends, neighbors, spouses, and anyone else you can think of, to the Howell Rotary's Wine Tasting on Wednesday, March 30th from 4:30-7 p.m. at the Howell Main Street Winery.
The cost is $15 per person with all proceeds supporting youth literacy programs through the Howell Carnegie District Library and youth scholarships through the Howell Parks and Recreation. Join us!
Last week Michael Dabbs, President of the Brain Injury Association of Michigan, was our guest presenter. He really had some great information to share, great stats and helped to create awareness about brain injury. One of the largest groups affected are boomers+ who tend to do a lot of slip-and-falls, tripping injuries, etc. Good reminder to take a few minutes to do checks of potential hazards in our own homes and those of our parents.
Welcome to our newest members – Debbie Mikula, Director of the Howell Parks & Recreation Department (who returns as a member) and Matt Swartzlander, District Manager of the Boy Scouts. Both are great additions to our club and we look forward to their getting involved.
Howell Rotary / Ladner Scholarship Update: John Fellows made the presentation to our scholarship recipient on Wednesday evening. We look forward to hearing about the 2010 recipient and this well-deserved recognition. Thanks, John.
The Howell Rotary Club and the Tour de Livingston were well represented Friday evening at the Community Resource Fair, as part of the Livingston County Home & Garden Show. Thanks to everyone who volunteered their time to showcase this great community event – as well as our wonderful club!
Reminder: Important Rotary International Update on Japan Earthquake / Tsunami Crisis: Rotary International is making a huge effort to assist with the crisis in Japan. If you would like to personally donate through the Rotary International Foundation, bring your check to the next meeting and we'll forward to the appropriate department. The Howell Rotary board has been requested to consider a contribution to the relief effort; this discussion will take place at Monday's board meeting, just prior to our regular meeting.
Bowl Meister Dan Murdock & the great team from the Howell Rotary Club did a tremendous job raising funds for Big Brothers Big Sisters mentorships at the BOWL FOR KIDS last weekend. We raised a total of $1,680, plus the club's commitment of $500 made it $2,180. Way to go, Team!

April 16th – Jeff Hansen is going to step out in style at LACASA's "Walk a Mile in Her Shoes". He's previously made quite the fashion statement and has promised that, with enough support, he'll outdo last year. Give Jeff a shout out if you're able to support his milestone walk (strut? saunter?)
April 30th – Interact 5K Run. Lots of help needed – contact Peter Bowen for more info.
