Today, July 21, 2008: Jim Gilligan himself will present today's program, entitled "Our Friend the Bicycle." Jim's travelogue will take us along on many of his cycling tours of North America and Australia.
Next Week: There is a club assembly on Tour de Livingston. The event's website, www.tourdelivingston.org, will be live soon!
August 4: Mark Cryderman is the speaker. His topic is renewable energy.

Greetings Fellow Rotarians,
Every year we announce the new "theme for the year. " but have you ever wondered how this all came about? Or have you wondered who picks it...or why...?
Up until 1949 there were none! That year Rotary International President (RIP) Percy Hodgson from Rhode Island said his 'theme' was "Objectives of our Team" and had a list of objectives. The next year RIP Arthur Lagueux of Quebec had "Goals for 1950-51." Then there were none for a couple years until RIP Joaquin Cibils of France (1953-54) had the true forerunner of todays' themes when he chose "Rotary is Hope in Action."
However, it was not until 1957-58 and on, that choosing a theme became an established part of the new RIP's program for his year. Now each new president announces his theme at the International Assembly where the incoming District Governors are trained. This announcement is awaited with anticipation and excitement for it establishes the pattern and logo for the year as well as the goals they hope to achieve.
RIP D. K. Lee chose his carefully to reflect his goal of making the world a better place for the children of the world.
In his words..he is asking us to do this in 2008-2009:
Make Dreams Real:
By giving children hope and a chance at a future.
Make Dreams Real:
By bringing clean water to their communities, not
only providing safe water to drink, but creating
the sanitation projects that keep children healthy.
We'll be as proud of building public toilets as we
are of supplying drinking water.
Make Dreams Real:
By giving children the chance at health through
improving their environment and their access to
care.
Make Dreams Real:
By making sure that more children have a chance
to go to school, because it will only be through
education that the deadly cycle of poverty can be
broken.
Make Dreams Real:
By working together on Rotary's $100 Million
Challenge to finally rid the world of polio.
MakeDreams Real :
By bringing new members in to Rotary. Our
membership is not growing. But the needs of the
world's children are. In order to keep pace with
these needs, we must have more members.
Let's do it!
