Today, July 18, 2005: Captain Mike Myers is paying a return visit to intrduce the new captain of the Salvation Army. As many know, Mike was transferred to Saginaw after six years in Howell. We did not have much opportunity to say Good Bye to Mike. For those unfamiliar with the Army, Mike came in to right the ship because the Howell office was in deep financial trouble. Mike along with his wife Shirley corrected the problem. The Army is now making plans for a new facility, which is long overdue.
Congratulations! First to our Sergeant of Arms Harry Griffith, who was honored by the Livingston County Board of Realtors for his 50 years of service. Harry was recognized for his stewardship, leadership and continued and professionalism to the organization.
Second to Carol Griffith, who was named Realtor of the Year by the 1000-member Livingston County Board of Realtors. She is also the president of this group for 2005. Carol has been a very active in the community: Advisory Board for St. Joseph Mercy Health System in Livingston County; Co-chair for the Fall Fundraiser for the Cancer Care Center; as a member of LACASA Development Committee; a member of the Livingston County Community Foundation; and as a support of Gleaners Food Drive.
Rotary salutes two of our outstanding members.
Harry Potter Night: With the imaginative leadership of Mary Ellen Ahmad and Amy Connolly, Howell opened up on Friday night as Hogwarts School, the fictional home of Harry Potter and his friends. There were so many activities and so much fun for all those who dressed up as witches and warlocks. Howell became another shining light as an active community. No wonder it is a Cool City.
Next Week: Herb Bursch, the president of Gringott's Bank (aka The First National Bank of Howell), is the program chairman.
