Today, July 11, 2005: We are having a Club Assembly today under the direction of Carol Griffith, our new president.  Our club is looking in new directions.  One is an altered format in the meetings themselves.  The Program Chair will have increased responsibilities in presenting the program.  One important area is giving the speaker sufficient time to present his topic and answer questions.  Another area is making our club more open and friendly.  The Board is seeking people who will be greeters for guests and new members.  As the meeting progresses, President Carol will explain how the club will reach out to its members and hopefully give an improved meeting.

Several weeks ago, President Jeff had Rotarians complete a questionaire concerning your relationship with Rotary.  Here is one question and your responses:

Question: Why did YOU join Rotary?  What do you like BEST?

Answers:
1.  "Speakers"
2.  "I was told by several people that it would put me in touch with influential people."
3.  "I joined for the commaraderie and the networking."
4.  "Professional contacts.  Excellent programs."
5.  "Networking.  I do service through other organizations."
6.  "Because I was invited and heard they did good work."

7.  "Networking before the meetings and the speakers."
8.  "Networking."
9.  "Liked some of the members I knew."
10."Involvement in the community - international and national fellowship."
11."Getting to know local business owners and leaders."
12."Meet persons in the community."
13."To fellowship with community members and business leaders."
14."Discuss ways to improve community."
15."I felt it was worthy of my time.  I like the friendships and the creative ideas that come from this group."

You will notice a common refrain.  Rotary is important because of the networking, the community, and the fellowship.  The speakers are essential to a good meeting.  Thus,
it seems necessary that eating with different members each week is an important part of the participation.  In short, move about the room.  Find someone whom you don't know very well and have lunch with him/her.
