The Howell Rotary Club will meet on Monday, January 16th, 2012 for lunch at 12:00 in the Community Room at St. Joseph Mercy Livingston Hospital on Byron Road in Howell.

At the last meeting, held January 9th, members listened to Club member Peter Bowen’s economic review of 2011 and his outlook for 2012.  Peter expressed cautious optimism for 2012 with GDP growth between 2 and 3 percent and a continued gradual decline in the unemployment numbers.

Peter identified a number of unknowns that could negatively and/or positively affect the numbers.  Those include the Euro crisis, unrest in the Middle East – particularly the oil producing nations; whether the China bubble is handled well or not, etc.

Interestingly, the next morning at the Chamber’s Good Morning Livingston program, the economist for CoAmerica gave almost exactly the same presentation.  Peter should feel honored that his presentation was copied by such an imminent personage.

Last week the Club elected Mr. Ron Wilson, Superintendent of Howell Public Schools, as the Club’s President Elect-Designate.  Congratulations and Thanks to Ron for stepping up to this leadership role.

This week’s program will feature a presentation by Mr. Rick Zipper.

Thank you to the members who turned in cards identifying potential new members.  23 names were submitted.  If you missed this chance you can still submit names.  We’ll follow up on these names and involve you in that follow-up.

Have you registered with the state as an organ donor?  We will be doing a count in about 2 weeks to see what percentage is registered.  Just in case you forgot you can go on-line at giftoflifemichigan.org and self-register.

President Elect Dr. Sam Vasiu will be presiding this week.  Steve has to be out of town on business.

See You Monday!
