Today, January 14, 2008: Today's program is presented by Peter Bowen, Morgan Stanley representative and one of Rotary's most active members. He will give the club the economic outlook for 2008, where the economy is headed and what to expect in Michigan.
There will be a Howell Rotary Board Meeting today immediately following the regular meeting.
Next Week: Rick Sigler is the program chair. He has invited Kathy Guerrero from PAWS to present a dog- training program.
January 28: Catherine Rae Dunning will talk about the Walk for Warmth, one of OLHSA's programs.
February 4: Carol Griffith will present a real estate forecast.
Last Week's program featured Clyde Riley, who gave the Club an inspirational talk about being committed to Rotary activities and fundraising. He was widely supported by other club members, all of whom wish to get more members active.
Well, As Long as You Have to Eat Anyway...
On January 22nd, from 7:00 AM to 9:00 PM at George's Senate Coney Island in South Lyon (25900 Pontiac Trail, South Lyon, MI, 48178, if you eat there, he will donate 15% of your breakfast, lunch or dinner check to Lyon Area Rotary. All proceeds will go to fund the community service projects of Lyon Area Rotary. Come one, come all, come hungry!
Let's do this for two reasons:
1) Support our new Rotary brothers and sisters in South Lyon in their first official fundraiser;
2) Show George how many people show up when Rotary asks, so he can be the reference for other clubs that might want to ask the same of a restaurantuer in their area.
Voting is tomorrow! Even though this is a primary, this is an important vote, especially for the Republicans. Romney, McCain, Thompson, Huckabee are all looking for your vote. The Democrats have only Clinton, Kucinich, Gravel, and Dodd on the ballot. Obama and Edwards are sitting this one out.

This is one of the many Humanity in Motion public service announcements that Rotarians can use to spread awareness of Rotary.The fourth edition of Humanity in Motion will be sent to all clubs for use in promoting Rotary locally. Carrying a membership message, this edition emphasizes the ways that Rotary enables members to make positive contributions in the world and showcases the many attributes of the typical Rotarian. Like the first three editions, Humanity in Motion IV includes television and radio public service announcements (PSAs), a newspaper supplement, and print and billboard PSAs. Rotarians are encouraged to tailor the PSAs to their local community.
Rotary clubs have used these tools in a number of creative ways. For example, the Rotary Club of Kawaguchi/Hatogaya Bunan, Japan, placed small Rotary billboards on the back of 1,000 taxis. In Canada, the Rotary Club of Westmount, Québec, created a 16-page color magazine using the Humanity in Motion supplement and PSAs to highlight Rotary's initiatives to eradicate polio and promote peace. The club personalized the articles and PSAs to feature local service projects. The magazine was then distributed in a local newspaper to 10,000 homes.
With its membership focus, Humanity in Motion IV complements the third edition, distributed in 2006-07, which focuses on polio, peace through international education, literacy, the environment, and other issues that Rotarians are addressing. Clubs are encouraged to use all these tools--and personalize them as appropriate--to promote Rotary in their community.
