Today, February 26, 2007: John Clay is hosting Rick Terres, the Associate Superintendent of Howell Public Schools, in charge of finances.  Rick faces all kinds of challenges: opening a new high school, repairing the old one, finding money to keep the district going despite lower state aid, providing health insurance, keeping sports teams funded, etc.

Next Week: The program next week includes Joel Bussell, the Rotary Fellowship, Peace, and Conflict Studies Program.

March 12: Board Meeting.

March 19: Fundraising Committee Meeting.

During the last board meeting Herb Wagner was approved as an Honorary Member, having surpassed 30 years as a Howell Rotarian. We will have 2 more members passing the 30 year mark and eligible for honorary membership in 2009!

Thanks to all the Rotarians who came out and Walked For Warmth on Saturday. We met President Jim's challenge to get at least 10 Howell Rotarians walking. Including 2 spouses and 1 child, 14 Howell Rotarians participated and raised more than $1000 to help keep the heat on for those in need. Zemp joined us. It was his first Walk For Warmth since he was 82! Special thanks to Larry Loewen for chairing the event for us. Nice job, Larry!

Remember that the Big Brothers/Big Sisters Bowling is set for Saturday, March 12 from 10-12 Noon. We need a few more bowlers to make up a second team and please make a pledge if you are not bowling. The bowling team would certainly appreciate some supporters cheering them on as well. Let's all help event chair Dan Murdock make this the best one yet!

Signs of the Times:

In a Veterinarian's office: "All unintended children will be given a free kitten."

In the same office: " Be back in five minutes.  Stay!  Sit!"

Have you noticed the brand new empty buildings around the area?  There is one in front of Kroger's, 3-4 across the road by the old Diamond Dot, and another building with eight doors and no tenants across from the Howell High School on M-59.  Apparently some developers will build these large buildings knowing that someone will lease them sometime.
