Howell Rotary News - 2-14-11

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!

"Livingston County Literacy Council" will be our program topic on Monday, with speaker Donna Gehringer.  Donna will share stats about the importance of literacy in young children, local literacy initiatives, and more.  This is great timing with March Literacy month coming up.

Welcome to our newest members:  Candy Jones-Guerin who is 'officially' a member through First Impression Print and Marketing (she was a member through LACASA for a long time) and Erica Karfonta from OLHSA, who transfers her membership from the Sunrise Rotary Club.  Both ladies are high energy and will be great assets to the Howell Rotary Club.  Welcome!

Last week's meeting brought together our various committees for our Quarterly Club Assembly.  Great discussion and great participation!  There were several comments from the committees about evaluating our resources (both volunteer and monetarily) and possibly being more focused with our energies.

This thought process truly aligns with the direction Rotary International is going.  Here's a snippet from a release just received from RI: " The RI Board agreed at its November meeting to phase out the World Community Service and Rotary Volunteers programs, effective 30 June. This decision was made in light of the priorities of the revised RI Strategic Plan and the need for an overall shift in how Rotary International administers its programs, moving to a "resource and support" model. The goal of the new model is to expand resources in a way that helps clubs connect and partner with greater ease, leading to an increase in the number and scope of significant international service projects."  Collaborations and partnerships.what a great idea!
