Cliff Miller's last meeting will be Monday, February 23rd, wish him continued success as he leaves for Columbus, Ohio! Cliff has a few of our Howell Rotary Flags that he will use when he visits potential clubs. Our lose is definitely their gain. Cliff will visit Howell Rotary when he returns for meetings and hopefully we will see him at the Tour de Livingston in October!
We need a Rotary Volunteer to work with the H.S. Freshman Interact Members. This vacancy was created as a result of Cliff Miller's relocation. The group meets from 7:00-7:30 a.m. in the Highlander Restaurant in the Howell H. S. Mrs. Starkey the H.S. Counselor runs the meeting. This Rotarian is there to support our efforts with the Interact Club they also bring a dozen donuts and juice to the meeting. Debbie Mikula represent the club at the after-school meeting held monthly. Dates needed are Tuesday's March 24th, April 28th and May 19th! Please email the Pres at kadane@tangeroutlet.com if you can assist the club! These students are fantastic and this is not a large commitment of time.
There is an important event on Thursday, February 26th, from 4:30 to 7:30. It is the Howell Rotary Club's opportunity to chase away the "Winter Blues." Jeanne Clum is organizing this event to meet, greet, and converse with our fellow members, friends, other Rotarians, and new friends. We will sit around the fireplace, taste exceptional wines, and enjoy special appetizers at Howell's Main Street Winery, just across the street from the Opera House. The cost is $15. The proceeds will help support the Howell Carnegie District Library literacy programs and the Howell Parks and Recreation Youth Programs.
If you have not been to the Main Street Winery recently, it is a wonderfully warm and cozy place. Please join us.
There is another important event: Bowling for Big Brothers and Big Sisters. Dan Murdock is spearheading this event and is looking for some more bowlers, some supporters, and a few hecklers (in case Brighton Rotary is rowdy). We also need a few monetary supporters who will back our team with some money. Renae Behr has offered to host an incentive mixer at her house as an extra bonus. Details to follow.
March would be a great month for Rotarians to bring a perspective member to one of our meetings. If you know a business associate that shows interest in becoming a member of a Service Club invite them to join you for a FREE Lunch to learn more about Rotary and what we do in our community and around the world. Service Above Self is our motto and we would love to share the opportunity! Pat Convery as membership chair will assist with perspective member questions!

METRO DETROIT ROTARY CLUBS LOOKING FOR APPLICANTS FOR
EXPENSES PAID TRIP TO JAPAN
Royal Oak, MI. ---
The 53 Rotary Clubs in Southeastern Michigan (Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, Washtenaw and Livingston Counties) and nearby Windsor Ontario area are looking for candidates to go on a Group Study Exchange (GSE) to Japan. Expenses are paid by Rotary International. The exchange to Japan will be from September 30, 2009 to October 31, 2009.
Deadline for applications is March 15, 2009.
Applicants for Group Study Team are
selected from corporations, small businesses, community organizations, medical and educational facilities, government offices and nonprofit agencies.
To be eligible, team members must be between 25 and 40 years old, and may not be a Rotary club member or be directly related to a Rotarian. They must be employed fulltime, with at least two years of work experience in their chosen field.
As representatives of Rotary District 6380 (consisting of 53 Rotary clubs in Southeastern Michigan and Central Ontario), GSE candidates should be articulate, open-minded, personable and motivated team players, enthusiastic about their vocations, eager to learn about the host country, as well as prepared to make presentations about our region of the world.
