The Howell Rotary Club met on Monday, August 8th at noon at a NEW TEMPORARY LOCATION. The occasion was our annual picnic in the park at the Howell City Park.
Our program featured a presentation by the Howell DDA Director, Nathan Voght, about the upcoming Howell Melon Fest. We heard about the newly revived Fine Arts show and all the other events that are scheduled for August 19, 20, and 21.
Don't forget to purchase your tickets for the Melon Ball. It’s a wonderful night under the big tent on the front lawn of the McPherson Mansion with entertainment, food, and social interaction. Last year’s event was much fun and this year promises to be even better!
On Monday, August 1 the Club heard Assistant District Governor Brenda Ochodnicky describe protocol for the visitation by District Governor Steve Youtz. You’ll be provided more information on that event as we move closer to the Governor’s visit.
The highlight of the day was the interview of member Milt Sandling. Fred Woodhams conducted the interview and stimulated Milt to recount stories of his WW II experiences and of his 38 years at the Campbell Ewald advertising agency in Detroit. Milt’s principle account was Chevrolet and he shared several stories of the inside happenings during that era when advertising moved into television in a big-time way.
Many of us remember that Chevy was the sponsor of the Dinah Shore show and Milt worked as the liaison between Chevy and the show producer. He did the same with the Pat Boone show and Milt shared with us an unusual event that occurred during the rehearsal and broadcast of a guest appearance of Nate King Cole. Ask a member that was present to recount the incident. It speaks volumes about how far our nation has progressed (and how far we had to go) since the late 1950’s.

Membership Dues/Fees. Just a reminder that your membership fee is due. Rotary’s membership year runs from July 1 through June 30. The annual fee is $500 which includes your lunch, International and District dues, and your Rotary magazine. Please let Dan or Greg know what your status is so that appropriate reporting deadlines can be met.
County Rotary Golf Outing/Challenge. Golfers, mark your calendar for September 28th. Brighton Rotary is hosting this Annual outing at the Majestic with a 12:30 shotgun start. You’ll play 2-person teams in a scramble format. You’ll be matched up against a 2-person team from another club. Handicaps will be incorporated into the scoring. Brighton Rotary currently holds the trophy. Can we take it away from them?
