"Impact and Programs of the American Cancer Society" will be our presented by with Stephanie Kowalski as our guest speaker.  Stephanie will share the local benefit of the various fundraisers that take place throughout the year, as well as provide information on how to connect with needed services.

WOW - What a Melon Festival!   Kudos to Jeff Hansen and Stephanie Schlittler, co-chairpersons of this year's Melon Festival, and to our other Rotarians who were so very involved with the success of the weekend.  Fellow Rotarians Sandie Cortez and Patti Griffith were a dynamic duo, overseeing a sold-out melon ice cream crop!  Thanks also to Howell Village Market and Howell Burger King for the use of their freezers.  With everyone volunteering and working together, it's anticipated that we netted over $5,000 to go support our budgeted youth programs this year.  Well done, Howell Rotarians!

Melon Ice Cream 'Wrap Party'.   Watch for more information about an upcoming date and time to celebrate the tremendous success of the melon ice cream sales.  This will be a family event, with creative ice cream floats, food and fun.

Membership Drive Bring a prospective member to a meeting and you will get your name entered in a drawing during the months of August and Spetember.  If the individual joins you will get your name entered again.

Tour de Livingston Committee Meeting.   Date and time for the next meeting will be announced on Monday.  We're starting to get into the nitty-gritty of marketing, logistics, etc. and need as much help as possible right now.  Will keep everyone informed as to date and time of meeting - hope you can join us!

Note:   Monday, September 6^th there will be no meeting in recognition of Labor Day.

 Last Weeks Meeting

Welcome proseptive member Lesile, brach manager of Flagstar bank who has lived in the area for 60 days. 

Matt, commitee chair with Cub Scout Pack 365, came and shared with us what the pack does and what the Rotary $ goes towards for this pack. 

Pack 365 is made up of about 80 boys, whom meet once a month and meet weekly with their dens.  They are all about discovering and learning with families.  Matt expressed that they really encourage family events to teach the boys that family is the support system.  Some of the events the boys participate in throughout the year are the Pinewood Derby, hikes, winter activities, a lot with the Boyscouts and this pack is also about giving back to the community, which is why the rotary is a good fit as a charter for them. 

 The money given to pack 365 from the Rotary was able to pay for 5 area boys to be members of pack 365 and helped numerous other families with manual or uniform pieces from last year.

Sheri with Big Brothers Big Sisters came and shared with us what they are all about and their programs. 

 In 2009 Livingston County Big Brothers Big Sisters served 576 kids.  They get 39% of their funds from United Way and 41% from fundraising(thank you bowlers!). 

Lunch buddies and Big future are currently two programs that Big Brothers Big Sisters offer to area youth trying to build consistency and support in the child's life.  If you are interested in pariticpating with Lunch Buddies in which you would go to the childs school once a month for lunch please contact Big Brothers Big Sisters @ 517-546-1140.
