August 2, 2010 Program chair Pat Convery Pat invited Austin Szalkowski to speak with us after reading about him in the paper. Ausitn 24 will be emberking on a 3,000 mile skate this Labor Day. The underlying theme of his skate will be to rediscover the true meaning of the American Flag: freedom

Melon Ice Cream pre-sales are now being taken. Pick up your order form at Monday's meeting (be sure to take extra for friends and family!) Kim Dane is the volunteer coordinator for Melon Ice Cream so please say yes when Kim asks. This is a huge fundraiser for our club - with lots of great visibility to be seen out and about in the community.
Steve Gronow a visitor at last weeks meeting is looking for some volunteers to help with fishing derbies that him and his wife hold on their property. Any one interested in helping can contact Steve's wife Patty pgronow@comcast.net for details on the upcoming derbies. Your families are also invited to help out.

Rotary Moment Patti Griffith-Patti and her husband are residents of Fowlerville along with their children. As a family they enjoy camping. Mel her 15 yr old daughter is learning to drive and Adam, her son, 9 is very involved with his Boyscouts. Patti graduated highschool 25 yrs ago and has worked at First National for several years, starting as a co-op.
Genesis House in Fowlerville is a Clubhouse for men and women recovering from mental illness. Lee, Mike and Bea came to share information about the Clubhouse. The membership is voluntary and strengths based. Members are essential for the operation of the Clubhouse with their work day which the members and staff work side by side for the daily operations. Members are given employment and educational support, Bea shared with us her experience through the transitional employment placement. Bea gained confidence while working at TJ Maxx, she enjoyed her co-workers and met one of her goals of being able to talk among people. They are trying to expand their Employment Committee with well connected community members, the committee meets once a month for an hour.
