Monday, August 20, 2007: Today we have a very interesting program. Former Rotary president Chuck Breiner, Howell Superintendent of Schools, and Lucian Leone from Lansing Community College will speak on the partnership that Howell schools is forming with the college. Welcome to both Chuck and Lucian.

Next Week: Audrey Chavalier, Rotary District Governor, will be our guest speaker. There will be a board meeting at 10:30 before the regular meeting.
September 3: It is Labor Day. No meeting.

    County-Wide Rotary Picnic
     The 1st county-wide Rotary picnic is in the books. There were over 100 people in attendance at the Howell City Park on Thompson Lake. While enjoying a potlatch dinner fellow Rotarians commented on how nice the freshly painted Howell Rotary pavilion looked. Nice job Parks Comittee!
    After dinner, everyone had a chance to dunk our current presidents in the dunk tank! Meanwhile, our kids got to know each other while jumping around in the moon bounce. Some Rotarians played frisbee and football with some of the kids.
    The Howell club was well represented in the balloon toss by Pat Convery and Jim Gilligan, who made it to the final stages before being robbed, ROBBED I TELL YA, by the whistle of an over zealous official. Pat and Jim will be practicing for next year's event by playing water balloon toss on the lawn of the Howell Chamber of Commerce during lunch hours for the next 12 months.
     Congratulations to President Ron Hingst for taking point on this very well thought out and executed event. We'll see you at the 2nd Annual County-Wide Rotary Picnic in 2008!Â

Congratulations to the people who worked so hard on the Melon Festival. It was another success story. There is always so much fun.
Have you noticed the dark sky at 9 p.m.? The days are getting shorter. Some dread the coming of autumn, but football fans are ready to go. And autumn means apple cider, tandem bicycle tours, the wonderful colors, the wood smoke, and schoolday traffic jams. It is a great time!
