Today, August 14, 2006: We meet at the Howell City Park. Take Michigan Avenue to Thompson Street and follow the road into the park. It is an absolutely beautiful setting for lunch and conversation.
Next Week: Catherine Rea Dunning has invited State Representative Chris Ward. He is a Republican but that is no reason we can't be polite to him.
August 24: The Steering Committee is meeting at Cleary's at 12 Noon.
August 31: Gerry Jackson, Rotary District Governor, will speak.
September 3: Labor Day. No meeting.
Humor
The daily news has been full of bombs, death, and anger. But we need some humor once in a while:
The middle-aged wife poked her husband in the ribs. "Don't forget that tomorrow is my birthday. I want to look at that driveway and see something that will go from 0 to 250 in six seconds and that is nice and shiny."
The next morning the wife gets up and looks the window onto the driveway. There is a box with a red ribbon around it. She puts on her robe and picks up the box, brings it into the house, and opens it.
Inside is a new digital scale. The husband has not been seen in months.
