Wednesday, April 25: The Wine and Cheese Tasting event - sponsored by Howell Rotary - will be at the Mainstreet Winery across from the Opera House. From 5 to 8. We hope you will come and bring a friend!
Thursday, April 26: The Steering Committee meets at Noon at Cleary's.
Next Monday, April 30: Sheriff Lieutenant Tom Cremonte will speak on "Jail Overcrowding and Road Patrol Issues."
John Rubio recently represented the Howell Rotary and visited the Howell Police Department and Chief Basar to drop off a supply of Teddy Bears to be used for children in times of crises such as car accidents, domestic violence and other stressful situations.The Bears were obtained during the recently OLHSA Walk for Warmth. Anyone making a $10 donation received a Bear, and the Howell Rotary donated their Bears to the Police Department.The furry critters are a good source of comfort for youngsters in time of stress. Nice going John!
More Good News From Sarah Heddon
Most of you have met Sarah by now since she has made two presentations to our club. Sarah has just been awarded a very prestigious Fulbright grant! However this great news has presented a problem. Here's Sarah in her own words:
"I have formally declined the Rotary Ambassadorial Fellowship because I just received notification of an American Fulbright IIE grant. It has been an incredibly heart-wrenching decision for me, as I am unable to accept both."
"The Fulbright will allow me to do my research in Zanzibar, so I still intend to continue with the Rotary contacts and projects I have begun. I have been in close contact with Rotarians from District 9200 and a few Rotarians from Zanzibar. They are still willing to work with me even though I will not be receiving funding from RI. I guess what I'm trying to say is that this decision will only affect funding--my heart and intentions are still with the Howell Club!"
"I just want to emphasize my willingness to continue to represent the Howell Club and to work on Rotary Ambassadorial projects while in Zanzibar, Tanzania and district 9200 as a whole! Working with the Howell Club and even the initial contacts I've made with folks in district 9200 have been an incredible blessing in my life. I am confident that I'll be able to do most of the work I intended to do and continue with the relationships I've already started to form in Tanzania. Thank you for understanding and I'll keep you posted throughout this process. I'm hoping to leave mid to late summer, so maybe I can drop into your club meeting sometime during the month of May!"
