I recently received a letter form RI President Bill in which he emphasized his and Lorna's excitement about our upcoming Rotary International Convention in Salt Lake City. He urged those of us who are already registered and are members of the Frequent Convention Goers Fellowship to convey to all that this is going to be a fabulous convention. If you have never been to an International Convention or have not yet decided to go to this one, I would like to urge you all to give it real consideration
A huge advantage for Americans and Canadians is the fact that Salt Lake City is on our own continent, and can be reached by car, plane, bus or train!! And, best of all, it is the most reasonably priced convention in decades!!
President Bill highlighted some of the features he found so exciting:
"The House of Friendship will be bigger and better than ever! As you enter you will see an Indian Village, 150' by 35' with a running stream. Totem poles will show languages and direction. There will be comfortable conversation areas , and roving entertainment. The food area will feed 1,000 people at a time with plenty of choices available and will include alcoholic beverages!
There will be an internet area and connections to the Genealogy Center of the Mormon Church..in addition there will be tours of the Genealogy Center which is only 2 blocks away.
A new feature will be the Rotary Youth Hub with attractions for Rotaract, Interact, RYLA, Youth Exchange, and Ambassadorial Scholars...and any other young attendees. (And some 'old' Rotarians, too) Plans include a climbing wall, large screen movies, bean bags, internet, a snack bar, virtual rides and a mechanical bull!!"
The week's activities feature a rodeo, a Country and Western show, home hospitality, an Evening at the Capital Theater (214 performers entertaining with songs from opera and musicals) , a Rendezvous in the Park, Business to Business contact sessions, along with plenary sessions and workshops, and fantastic opening and closing ceremonies. Donnie Osmond is breaking his tour through the USA to be at the opening ceremony!
For the golfers---you will be able to play top courses for under $50 including greens fees and cart!
I ,too, add my urging to President Bill's...Go!..Experience the thrilling adventure that is an International Convention !! You will come away so proud to be a Rotarian and so glad you went.
Yours in Rotary Service,
RIO Merle
