This morning, we are delighted to listen to Lund Universitys' vice-chancellor  Erik Renström speaking about Lund Universitys' stand on the international scene. 

Lund University was founded in 1666 to culturally integrate county Skåne in Sweden. Since then, Lund has become firmly cemented as one of the most important places for the development of Swedish academia. Today you will be presented a snapshot of what Lund University is today, but also what the future holds.

Vice-Chancellor Erik Renström

Erik Renström took up the position of vice-chancellor of Lund University on 1 January 2021.

The vice-chancellor has overall responsibility for the activities of the entire University (in cooperation with the deputy vice-chancellor) and is responsible under the University Board for leading the organisation. This includes monitoring the organisation and taking initiatives for renewal and change. The vice-chancellor issues the regulations that are required and has a general supervisory duty regarding the organisation.

Erik Renström is a professor of experimental endocrinology and was dean of the Faculty of Medicine at Lund University between 2018 and 2020. He has been involved in public healthcare, academia and the business sector and also worked at the intersection between them on several projects.

Erik Renström’s research focuses on diabetes, particularly the insulin-producing beta cells in the pancreas. He has conducted diabetes research in Lund and Gothenburg, spent time as a postdoc in the UK and worked at the pharmaceutical company Novo Nordisk A/S. He has been assistant coordinator of the diabetes centre LUDC, which became a Linnaeus Centre in 2006, as well as coordinator for Exodiab, one of the Government’s strategic research areas (SRAs).
