Session 1: Insights into Leadership
• Servant leaders exhibit the following characteristics: o Listening
o Empathy
o Healing
o Awareness
o Persuasion
o Conceptualization o Foresight
o Stewardship
o The growth of others
o Building community
• Think of a mentor or someone who shaped the way you lead. Do they exhibit the servant leadership characteristics? I’m sure they do.
• How does it fit into Rotary? Rotarians must expend their personal energy for others, show empathy for humankind, be truthful, fair, build goodwill, and act in such a way to benefit others. Rotarians are servant leaders!
Session 2: Engaging Members
o ALL OF US are the membership committee! o Why did you join Rotary?
o Service projects
o Values align with your core values
o Fellowship
o Networking
o Why did you stay?
o Is it the same reason? Different?
o How do we get members to join in itially, but engage them enough to want to stay?
o Social media is a huge presence—being active on social media is crucial
o Identify passions and talents—if they feel valued and utilized to their full potential, they will feel engaged.
o Be careful to not go over board—no one wants to go to work, then go to Rotary and do the same thing for free. It must be a passion they truly love and want to do.
o Tenured members come along side new members to“sponsor” them and show them what Rotary is about.
Session 3: Service Projects
o What creates a successful service project?
o Buy-in: members must want to do it and feel connected to the projects. To do this,
discover as many details about the project as possible.
o Discover the needs of the community/Community Involvement:the community needs to take ownership as well. In some cases they’re responsible for the upkeep and must have enough pride in the project to maintain it.
o Variety:conduct a variety of service projects to capture the attention of each member.
o Represent Rotary well! Will this project give the impression Rotary wants people to know/see?
Session 4: Our Foundation
o Why should the club care about the foundation?
o Provides resources to clubs
o Accomplishes projects and tasks individual clubs could not accomplish on their own
o Sustains clubs because the funds stay local
o Rotary Foundation is the number one foundation in North America
o Foundation is independent of Rotary International and has its own board.
o There are three programs funded by the foundation:
o Polio
o Vocational training team (group study exchange)

Session 5: Ethics—Vocational Service
o The principles of the four-way test unite all Rotarians. It’s a common ground and starting point. o The principles carry over to our careers—it’s who we are.
o Be fair, build goodwill, facilitate friendships, etc
o Leave a person or situation better than when you found it.
o Contribute to dealings with humankind, not constantly take for your own benefit
Session 6: My Rotary World
o Think of our Rotary structure like an upside-down pyramid:
o The top (largest part) are the clubs.
o Each club is a part of a smaller structure called a District.
There are more than 530 and we are district 5650.
o Each district is divided up into Zones. There are 34 and we’re a part of Zone 25B. North to Canada, south to Texas.
o Each zone is filtered to Rotary International who is housed in Evanston, Illinois.
