Membership Happens

Too often we ask for the sale (membership in Rotary) before the prospect is ready. This leads to a “no, thank you” or a new but reluctant member. It is only then we find out that it was never a good fit. How can we change that BEFORE the “ask”?

 

Jim is the Executive Director of VINA Community Dental Center located in Brighton, Michigan.  

He earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Ohio University in 1975. After a 40 year career in insurance, Jim sold his business and earned an Executive Certificate in Non Profit Leadership and Management from the Mendoza College of Business at The University of Notre Dame in 2016. He is the Founder and CEO of Leadership Transition Services, specializing in interim leadership of non profits.

Jim is a past Director of the Brighton Rotary Club as well as past President of the club (2001-02). He was the Charter President of the Livingston Sunrise Rotary
Club (2004-05). He has served as the Chair of the Livingston Sunrise Rotary Foundation, Club Membership Chair, Bulletin Editor, Nominating Committee and Great Duck Race Emcee. Jim returned to service of his club in 2019-2020 as President. During his second term, LSRC chartered a Community Based Rotaract Club, a Satellite Club (which will charter as a Rotary Club October 1, 2020) and grew from 67 to 84 members.

He has served at the District level as District Governor (2013-2014), Vice Governor, Assistant Governor, Vision Facilitation Leader and Membership Chair (several times). Jim’s passion is membership and the formation of new clubs; having been involved in 8 new clubs in the District.

Jim currently serves as the RI Council on Legislation Rep for District 6380 as well as Vice-Chair for Great Lakes Rotary PETS.

Jim is a multiple Paul Harris Fellow, a member of the Rotary Foundation Bequest Society and a Paul Harris sustaining member.

He has served as a speaker at Rotary meetings throughout Southeast Michigan and Southwest Ontario on issues involving the values of Rotary and Rotary Membership

Jim is married to Anne, who is also a Paul Harris Fellow, for 43 years. They have three sons who reside in New Bern, North Carolina, Naples, Florida and Grand Rapids, Michigan; and 3 grandchildren.
