History of the Davis Scholarship Fund

In 1982, the Rotary Club of Elizabeth began selling an innovative series of lithographs entitled “Elizabeth-Treasures of the Past” to fund the Club’s fledgling scholarship program. Then President John Jacobson earned the nickname “General John” as a result of his energetic sales efforts. The scholarship effort flourished as a result of this lithograph program as well as a very generous bequest from the estate of Albert Davis and his wife Louise.

Albert Davis was a fixture in the Elizabeth community, managing F.W. Woolworth’s store on Broad Street for many years. He donated his time and talents to Elizabeth based organizations including the Rotary Club of Elizabeth. His wife Louise shared his enthusiasm for the Elizabeth Community and in particular, its youth.

As a result of their bequest, the Davis Scholarship Fund was established as a qualified, tax-exempt charitable organization

The Davis Scholarship Fund has continued to flourish thanks to generous contributions from youth-minded individuals and corporations.
