Welcome to the Rotary Club of Elizabeth

Founded in 1917, our Club has been a model of “Service above Self” for over 100 years. During that time we have raised and donated over 1.5 million dollars in Scholarships to local students and Grants to local Charitable Organizations. In addition, we have provided over 25,000 dictionaries to third grade students in the cities of Elizabeth and Hillside.

While we have a deep commitment to the City of Elizabeth, we strongly support the Rotary International Foundation, especially Polio Plus. Since 1986, Rotary International and its partners have immunized 2.5 billion children around the world against that crippling disease. Our Club has also contributed to disaster relief efforts around the world. I have great faith in the commitment of my fellow Elizabeth Rotarians as I have for the past 32 years.

May and June News!

On May 14th, Rotary recognized the EMS of the year, Shannon Donnelly and Captain Dean Melacharinos of the Elizabeth Fire Department. Thank you for all you do for the community!

On May 18th, Rotary and Rotary Interact Club participated in the 2025 Tour de Elizabeth.

On June 4th and 5th, we held the annual Albert and Louise Davis Scholarship Luncheon at the Garden Restaurant. $49,000 in scholarships were awarded to 24 Elizabeth High School students. Congratulations and wishing them all future success!

On June 18th we celebrated a successful year of Rotary and recognized member Doug Harris for 40 years of service.

On April 5th, Rotary participated in the Relay for Life 5K Run/Walk at Nomahegan Park.

On April 9th, we had a pop-up meeting at the Elizabeth Public Library (Elmora Branch).

On Wednesday, January 8th, the mayor of the Elizabeth, Chris Bollwage gave his State of the City Address. We wish him luck as he begins his ninth term as mayor.

On February 19th, Guido Morsella, a teacher at the Frank J. Cicarell Academy spoke to us about Rare Disease Month. We also congratulated Lisa Liss, Trinitas (RWJ) Director of Volunteer Services, on her recent retirement and thanked her for her work with Elizabeth students. We also happily welcomed new member Alexsandra Ramirez who will be our Club’s new Assistant Treasurer. Welcome Alex!

On February 22nd, we held our annual Pancake Breakfast. Thank you for everyone who volunteered and came out to enjoy the pancakes!

On Thursday, November 21st, we had a meeting celebrating the wonderful volunteers who assisted with our Rotary led project to renovate the Elizabeth Salvation Army’s food pantry. President Kelly McCracken Villanueva and Captain Walter Droz opened the meeting by thanking everyone involved in this yearlong effort. Rotarian Carlton Daniels, President of the Greater Newark Habitat for Humanity also thanked everyone including the students and teachers from the Thomas A. Edison Academy Construction & Technology Department, volunteers from Habitat for Humanity including Warren Evans and Maria Alvarado, Jacobson & Co. (who provided all the drywall and flooring (represented by Alexsandra Ramirez and Mike Pellicano), and volunteers from NJIT. The pantry reopened in October serving 1110 meals and in November 1105 meals. Captain Droz said this would not have been possible without this project. Thank you Carlton and all who made this possible.

On December 11th, we were treated to a fantastic Holiday concert by the talented students from Terence Riley School # 7 under the direction of Ms. Hsin-Ting Feng, Orchestra Director. Following the concert, thanks to our generous Club members and friends, Carlton Daniels delivered 20 packages of toys and clothing to the Elizabeth Salvation Army for their Angel Tree project.
