Your Help is Needed!!!!
As many of you know, we have sponsored a Camping Trip to Groveland Oaks in the fall for the last three years. It is one of our signature events!
Recently Tim and I met with Oakland County Parks and identified a date of Saturday October 11 to Sunday October 12 (only 3 weekends away). We are sponsoring over 11 Families to have an overnight camping experience and literary experience. Rotary Club of Pontiac's responsibilities include (with help of course):
Providing, preparing and cooking/grilling food
"Supervising" the kids during their Play times (which basically means having fun with the kids)
Helping kids to fish
Helping the families plant an oak tree provided by Goldner Wash
A little clean up
We are providing:
All of the meals, snacks etc.
Nature journals for the kids to record their experiences (such as tracing leaves)
A copy of The Mighty Oak Tree for each family. The book has beautiful artwork featuring sketches that would give children another way to connect with and appreciate the tree they helped plant.
Backpacks (with our & OCP logos) for the kids to carry on hikes etc.
A tall Oak tree for planting (taller than the deer at the park)
Last year we had approximately 48 people, 8 families, this year we are expecting over 65 people, 12 families. That is a 25% increase.
So, we are asking for your help:
Volunteer time
Volunteer money (Thank you Mark Thomas for your pledge to help!)
Time shifts are approximate and would be:
Saturday:
Morning Shift 9 - 12 pm Duties would include lunch prep and setting out lunch
Early After Shift 12 - 3 pm Duties would include serving lunch, playing with kids, food prep for dinner
Late After 3 - 6 pm Duties would include dinner prep and serving
Evening Shift 6 - ? pm Duties would include dinner grilling, serving, cleanup, and smores assistance
Sunday
Early Morn Shift 7 - 10 am Duties would include breakfast prep and cleanup
Late Morn Shift 10-1:30 pm Duties would include lunch prep and cleanup
There will be complete instructions as to what preparation is needed for the meals.
If you would like to stay overnight in one of the cabins, yurts, or in your own camper or tent, that can be arranged.
Bloomfield Rotary currently has 7 volunteers signed up, and we have 6, and just saying, we do not want to be outnumbered!!!!
Call me, email me, let me know what you can do to help!
