This week we traveled through the smoke and haze and found ourselves at M1 Grill, where the air conditioning and filtering system was working just fine!
John was already there to greet me and then they strolled in, one by one...Rick, Tom Bob and Tim. I am not sure how the conversation got started about Bob's Dad and what he did for a living (originally sold stoves until that Company was bought out by Sears) and then got into real estate (in Pontiac). We learned that both Rick and Bob's dads passed away while they Rick and Bob were in their 20's.
In the process of discussing Bob's dad and where he was in WWII, we learned he was stationed on the island in the Pacific (Tinian) that my dad (who flew 33 bombing missions over Japan in a B-29 named the "Sad Saki") was also stationed on Tinian. Bob remembered a few of my dad's stories, but he also remembered that my dad had the only Japanese American to fight/Fly in the Pacific Theater (he was his tail gunner). Tim and I lamented about we both have big High School reunions coming up in the next few years, and he was offering planning tips since mine is sooner than his. I understand John was asking a lot the questions of Bob, as half of Bob's meal was unfinished when we were all ready to go. There was also some discussion about the two restaurants in nearby Sylvan Lake, Lost Sailor & Gourmet" and "Orale's". The former being a fresh fish & seafood market and the latter a home cooked Mexican restaurant.
Lunchwise, I saw no lettuce on anyone's plate. I saw two omelets, (western and spinach and feta) a gyro/pita/wrap with onion rings, a turkey reuben and coneys (of course). I believe lunch was enjoyed by all!
