Steve Belanger
introduced Colonel-Retired Dee Russo and Sargent-Major-Retired Greg Russo of the National Guard who discussed the "Flag Folding Ceremony." For military funeral honors, the flag folding ceremony is the final demonstration of a grateful nation for the dedication of our veterans. The ceremony also includes the playing of "Taps" and three volleys of guns delivered by seven service members, i.e. a 21-gun salute. The military person conducting the ceremony and presenting the flag to the family of the deceased veteran must be of the same rank or higher of the honored veteran. The meaning of the folding of the flag during the ceremony:
st: fold symbolizes life
nd fold symbolizes the belief in eternal life
rd fold: honors the veterans who gave part of their life to defend our country
th fold represents a weakened nation, American citizens trusting in God, we trust to Him.
th fold tribute to our country
th fold represents where people's hearts lie and where we pledge allegiance
th fold tribute to the armed forces
th fold honors the one who entered into the valley of the shadow of death.
th fold honors womanhood and mothers
th fold honors fatherhood and fathers
th fold represents the lower portion of the seal of King David and Solomon
th fold symbolizes eternity and God, the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit
Final fold is the reminder of the nation's motto, "In God We Trust"
