Program:

Program Host Jason Huntley introduced chief economist Jeffrey Roach, Ph.D, from Horizon Investments, who spoke about "Making Sense of This Market." Dr. Roach discussed recent paradigm shifts of the last few years:  1) No Such Thing as Risk-Free, 2) Central Bankers Now Portfolio Managers, 3) Inflation is skewed by Housing. Recent ideas of government policymakers to stabilize the economy includes the creation of incentives for business to make capital improvements (bonus depreciation), give a "tax-holiday" to encourage business to earn their funds in the US (repatriated earnings), and consider the commonality of the issues of immigration and housing.  In summary, Dr. Roach believes that a) creative central bank exit strategies, b) low inflation risks, c) debt demand is still strong, d) government involvement is a game changer, and e) the labor market has permanently shifted.
