Program:

Program Host Bob Murray introduced his daughter Meghan Murray-Combs who discussed the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PanCAN).  Bob lost his wife almost three years ago to pancreatic cancer, and her battle inspired Meghan to become active in PanCAN.  Meghan is education and outreach coordinator for the Detroit area and recently became the Lansing coordinator.  PanCAN is 100percent volunteer driven and was founded in 1999.  PanCAN supports research through grants and fundraising; provides patients and caregivers with information; and assists communities and individuals in promoting awareness about the pancreatic cancer.  This form of cancer has the lowest survival rate (only six percent) of another other cancers and is very aggressive and fast moving, with mose people surviving only four-five months.  Pancreatic cancer is usually found by happenstance since no early detection tools or treatments have been found. Actor Patrick Swayze recently lost his battle with pancreatic cancer.  On October 9th at the Detroit Zoo, a Purple Stride fundraising walk will be held with the hope of raising $350,000 or more.  For more information about the walk, visit www.PurpleStride.org or www.PanCAN.org.

50/50 Drawing:            Due to the lack of our special progressive 50/50 deck of cards, an old-fashioned 50/50 drawing was held.  Sharon Kartes won $95.
