ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Peggi Mintz introduced Mt. Brighton guests, including new GM Chris Sorensen, and expressed thanks for Mt. Brighton hosting Dash or Crash. Peggi also presented a restaurant gift card to Cathy Riesterer as the Rotarian who registered the most Dash or Crash participants.
Hartland Rotary has a sporting clay competition on August 17 and is encouraging Brigthon Rotary to field a team.
LuAnn Loy reminds us that Brighton High band is looking for golfers and sponsors for its fund-raiser to send the band to the Outback Bowl.
Tom Coates (from 5-6 Saturday) and Rachele Evers (5-6 Friday) are among those in the dunk tank for Work Skills during this weekend’s Taste of Brighton. Tom says that for every extra five bucks you donate, you can toss in five pounds of ice when he’s in the tank.
Jim Gilmore says that District Gov. Mike Caruso is putting on a motivational presentation July 22 from 7:30-9 a.m. at Crystal Gardens, sponsored by Sunrise Club, Hartland Rotary and Brighton Rotary. Title: How to Engage Someone in 15 seconds. Register at Brighton Chamber.
Cathy Riesterer presented Piet Lindhout with at Outstanding Volunteer Award, which was announced at President’s Night. Then, since she figures they have enough plaques, Cathy gave Piet and Brian Donovan, large batches of cookies she baked to recognize the work they do to run Rotary Raiders. Both generously shared the cookies with the club.
Speaking of Rotary Raiders, Brian said a number of projects are already in the pipeline, including one next Wednesday and Thursday on Gulley Road, beginning at 2 p.m. Volunteer list passed around.
Julie Smith is looking for the Action Associates banner that disappeared after a day at the VIP tent at Dash or Crash.
Bill Gartley told a touch story of his uncle. Bill had heard stories of his Rotary background but, upon research, found how extensive it was. His uncle started working at Rotary HQ in 1934 and in 1954 he headed up the Rotary Foundation, spending time with Paul Harris. So it was quite a moment for Bill when he was named a Paul Harris Fellow at President’s Night.
Shane McKenzie brought his own time capsule as part of his return to the club: a box of photos that show many members looking a little bit younger than they look today.
Brian Donovan announced that Jim Barnas donated to the Rotary Raiders the wad of money he won at the President’s Night 50-50.
Dennis Kalio received the Silver Beaver Award as a top volunteer for Boy Scouts in the Lower Peninsula, one of only 7 awarded this year. Dennis then presented to President Adrienne the charter for the Boy Scout troop that Brighton Rotary has been sponsoring since 1928.

CLUB ASSEMBLY

New President Adrienne Knack noted that Rotary Serving Humanity is the Rotary International theme this year and that Go Public with Rotary is the District theme. She says she hopes to continue with Dash or Crash as the club’s major fund-raiser. She also wants to re-visit the Pub Crawl, which she thinks could be a fun fund-raiser.

Also, there won’t be a Christmas Party this year; instead, she is hoping for bonfire-type party in the fall. Maribeth Regnier and April Dertian quickly volunteered to co-chair such an event.

50-50

There was more than 500 bucks in the pot, but it will grow larger next week as Lori Lalama, Dennis Kalio and Melanie Moses all failed to find the Ace of Spades.
